my type 4 fan shroud won't fit over the oil filler tube on a new engine assembly. the filler tube was dented from a previous rear end accident but not sure if it is the issue or not. How do you all install the shrouds? i cannot fit it over the filler and I've tried just the front half of the shroud also.
What is the usual procedure for this? Am i right to install after the filler tube? _________________ 71 bus

Sounds like the tube is bent, take it off and replace it after the shroud is in place. Or remove the shroud mount studs on the case and swap them for bolts, it makes removing it a much faster job if you ever have to get at the oil cooler or filter mount later, no exhaust drop required. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

The shroud will normally not be able to be installed with the filler tube fully assembled to the crankcase. It must either be removed or the two fasteners loosened so the tube can drop down a bit to allow the shroud to pass over it. _________________ SL |

Thanks for the replies. I took the studs out and went with bolts. I like the idea of easier maintenance down the road too. Here’s the engine coming together. You can also see the dent on the filler tube I mentioned.
