I remember the rack, but is the awning new? Did I miss a discussion on that?
Glad you're back on the road. Are your eyes OK? Can you read the odometer without glasses?
Looking forward to my roadie returns. Still 5 weeks to go.
No smoke in central New Hampshire.

dabaron was just asking me what mileage I got the Van from him.
I realized that I am well over 26,000 miles since I got it running and headed to 27,000 soon!
Except for a leaky transmission, it is doing well.

Well....... NOT a good day.
Today as I went to get my recently mounted tire and wheel from the shop ....... during an upshift my automatic transmission made an odd "CRUNCH" sound that I've never heard before.......
I'm NOT happy! |
bad sound is bad... did you need to get it towed? _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL Camper

Today I worked at pulling the engine and transmission for an auto trans rebuild.
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=782193
I made progress but after lunch I lost my MoJo and side tracked onto removing the fiberglass cladding for body repair and repaint.
There are surprisingly a lot of dents behind that cladding!
I have all the cladding pieces but some are broken and need repair.
They are cracked, missing chunks and the mounting tabs are broken off.
Someone before me tried repairs with what looks like a hot glue gun.
Loosening the 10mm nut allowed the cladding to slip off quite easily. Loosening the nut frees the bottom tab, then simply swing the cladding out and lift.
Easy enough.
This left me with the mounting brackets all along the body. Some were falling off, many of the 4.8mm aluminum rivets into the body had decayed from road salt I'm guessing?
I drilled off the pop rivet heads and the mounting brackets simply fell off.
A few were screwed on with button head screws.
Surprisingly there are three different lengths, front doors, sliding door and body mount.
One of my body mount units was broken, no surprise, the surprise is that only one was broken!
The mounting fingers are broken off.....
Here is a close up of the part number.......
Happily BusLab stocks them! An order is in process......
The entire pile of 19 await cleaning.......

Did you consider not replacing the cladding? Seems like a lot of places for salty road brine to linger and eat away at your body. _________________ 91 Carat, automatic, GW 2.2, GW EFI, Peloquin TBD
