|
|
I plan to later this year pull the engine from my bug and switch out the camshaft, and maybe even go to 1776 or 1835 cc.
A have the adapter for the starter, so I can run the engine before reinstalling.
But my engine case came from a fuel injected engine, so there is no mechanical fuel pump, I have an electric pump in the car.
When I run the engine outside of the car, can I just gravity feed the gas ?
Carburators are dual 34 EPC's. |

Just buy a cheap electric fuel pump, when done with it, carry as a spare for your car. Heres one for $10 on Amazon.

I see no reason that gravity feed won't work for a beak-in run. There is no load on the engine and no high rpm so gravity feed should keep up just fine. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. You do want 3000rpm for cam breakin. _________________ Glenn

It will run just fine with gravity feed. I use a riding mower fuel tank on my test stand. You DO want to use an inline fuel shutoff valve which are also used on mowers and a fuel filter would also be smart. |

In this case RPM is nearly irrelevant. Engine load determines fuel volume requirements and there is virtually no load on the engine at break in on an engine stand. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. Great point! 12v should be there for any run stand for gauges and starter anyhow. I would not mess with gravity feed on break in. _________________ [email protected] MPH 1/4 Mile & 8.1 @ 83.7MPH in 1/8 Mile with Mild Type 1 VW Mag Case 2234cc commuter engine in stock weight bug w/only .491 total lift(CB2292 Cam), 42x37 heads, 48idf's, Street tires, Belt on, Mufflers, Pump gas, video of the run here: https://youtu.be/M3SPqMOKAOg

Here is mine back in 1992 on a milk box and used gravity feed. Modok saw I changed my crank pulley from one I made from a T-1 pulley to one I got from Mike Sharp from Sharpbuilt in Australia on a trade. Same engine in my car today. Never removed. Ok I also painted my fan housing never buy a Chrome fan housing, they rust in days. It a 32 hp fanhousing with Doghouse.
