I have original fabric 1967 convertible seat covers. The basketweave (1967 heat seam pattern is not accurately reproduced) is good, and feels supple, except for a small tear. I'm looking for an upholsterer who is up for recreating the seat covers (new flat vinyl sides) with the original basketweave. Does anyone have a recommendation of an upholsterer who might take on this project? _________________ -Harry

I would contact Sewfine:

I have seen a few different people use them and it is who I would use if I could afford them. _________________ '69 Beetle (pieces)

That's a good idea - and I talked to them a couple of years ago about this. They didn't want to work with original material. _________________ -Harry

Bump - does anyone have any other recommendations of an upholsterer or seamstress/tailor who may work with older/original material? I'd like to scope this down from calling every upholsterer in North America.
Thanks for any recommendations you can give! _________________ -Harry

I’d try your local places first. Don’t forget about the people that do boats.
I had my seats upholstered by a furniture shop. The guy that did it said: “Upholstery is Upholstery. Doesn’t matter what the chair goes in.”
Maybe I got lucky as they had no problem using my material either. _________________ Volkswagen!

The automotive upholsterers around here didn't want to work with it, but I didn't think about the furniture upholsterers, or boat upholsterers. I'll check them out. Thank you! _________________ -Harry
