I have original fabric 1967 convertible seat covers. The basketweave (1967 heat seam pattern is not accurately reproduced) is good, and feels supple, except for a small tear. I'm looking for an upholsterer who is up for recreating the seat covers (new flat vinyl sides) with the original basketweave. Does anyone have a recommendation of an upholsterer who might take on this project?

I would contact Sewfine:
https://sewfineproducts.com/Bug-Custom-Interiors

I have seen a few different people use them and it is who I would use if I could afford them.

That's a good idea - and I talked to them a couple of years ago about this. They didn't want to work with original material. Sad

Bump - does anyone have any other recommendations of an upholsterer or seamstress/tailor who may work with older/original material? I'd like to scope this down from calling every upholsterer in North America.

Thanks for any recommendations you can give!

I’d try your local places first. Don’t forget about the people that do boats.
I had my seats upholstered by a furniture shop. The guy that did it said: “Upholstery is Upholstery. Doesn’t matter what the chair goes in.”
Maybe I got lucky as they had no problem using my material either.

The automotive upholsterers around here didn't want to work with it, but I didn't think about the furniture upholsterers, or boat upholsterers. I'll check them out. Thank you!
