|
|
Hi,
Just recently bought my 2003 Eurovan. I knew there was an issue with the AC and with the hot weather am just getting round to looking into it. At some point the compressor seems to have been hard wired (with speaker cable) so that there is always 12v going straight to the compressor. Is this safe, is there any justification for this tampering?
Thanks
Dave

It's not a good idea. If the AC compressor is running even though the HVAC fans are not running, there's a chance that the evaporator(s) could ice up and potentially crack the core(s). Likewise, if there's an over-pressure situation that would normally cut off the compressor, that fail-safe has been overridden. _________________

Why not just make a custom set of wires with a Y splice in them. Then you could just run one distributor. |
I don't think electrickery works that way |

Thanks Stripped66 for your quick response. I'm not getting any cold air anyway, so it's broken somewhere. I have read a few posts on AC compressors generally and there are clearly various relays and switches involved to turn it on or off. But nothing on where the low/high pressure switches are. Anyone have any helpful guides on this?
Thanks |

Servicing/repairing the A/C is not a trivial task. Please, remove the jumper from the A/C compressor and take it to a professional. Don't risk injuring yourself...don't risk damaging other components. _________________

Sounds like a sensible approach, thanks! |
