Already booked my room!
I plan to stay Thursday overnight in Huntington, WV, (my usual stopover) then continue on to Appomattox on Friday. Hoping (as always) for 100% top-down weather.

This thread inspired me to start making our arrangements. We will come from Illinois in the camper and stay Thursday night at Buckeye Lake, Ohio then on to a campground at Monroe, Virginia, within easy reach of Appomattox on Saturday. It's gonna be great!

As long as the THING cooperates I should be able to make it.

I'm planning on driving to this one.

Thanks for the vote of Confidence Gary! (and the Help) be nice to catch up with you and the rest.

This will be my 2nd Kubeltreffen that I've ever driven the THING too.
Most were too far away for me to survive the drive! lol
Tow barred to most, Branson was the farthest for me.

Dover was the first one I drove to- That was an experience too, folks flying by us on the highway while i'm 'givin her all she's got Jim' to keep from getting ran over and them slowing down giving us a 'thumbs up' taking our pictures and flooring it and leaving us in the dust!
Being on the Monster Mile was very cool too.

A few days ago, I received a note from Sam Williams; The 181 Mileage King.
Some of the old timers in this group might remember Sam from the 2010 Kubel Treffen in Bardstown, KY, when he drove his Thing from Cupertino, CA.

Anyway, driving the same Thing, Sam plans to make the scene at KTE Appomattox next month!

That's a 2800 mile drive from Petaluma, CA for Sam, who plans to meet a fellow named Mark Girdner from SoCal Bajas in Salt Lake City, where they will continue on to Appomattox.

As somebody who has made a few long distance Thing road trips, my hat is off to Sam and Mark.

So safe travels to those guys, and to us all!

I'm looking forward to seeing everybody there.

It rainstormed on me at some point the last two kubeltreffens, why should this year be any different? Now I hear the Frenchman, I hear the dolphin, I could entertain the theory.

We put my top up this afternoon, so i will be driving down there with the top up... more MPG, less fun.

In case of a miracle, and it's not pouring down rain on Friday, I am bringing a stack of quarters for a quick stop at Mr. Suds Coin Car Wash in Lynchburg.
I'm pretty sure that's the closest one to the target hotel.

But really, the trip to KTE is always a fun adventure; rain or shine.

I've been checking weather every day and it's changed every day it seems.

Right now for Appomattox, apx 7pm 7-12-23
shows....

Fri: Scattered T-storms Hi-87
Sat: PM T-storms high 86
Sun: Am T-storms high 89

We've had spotty weather for a few weeks here now in VA but we've also seen it storm a bit then clear sky again.

Well, think Positive waves for no rain and cool weather, all we can do.

Looks like there is a carwash next to McDonalds and right behind the Marathon gas station. Only one I found in Appomattox it’s only a few blocks from the event hotel😎
