Glenn just did the flocking in my original glove box. Can’t wait to get it back.
I’ll send another pic. Mine had a spacer below the glove box to keep it from sagging. Just a note if you didn’t have this. Like 2 in x 10 in placed between the bottom and the luggage area sheet metal.

Jeff, my Ghia build on the 4th of April 1956 has cloth material inside the glovebox... The cloth looks a lot like the headliner material.
When did they use the flocking method? |
Very interesting. I don’t know when that change was made. I have seen a picture of one other with a headliner inside but it was built in 1955. Maybe others will have data on this. _________________ http://karmannghias.org/

Ok you peaked my interest.
I had a photo back in the day when Jim Patterson had house of Ghia. I flew out to Mt St Helen’s where we had a plant and stopped to see Jim on the way. He had this trout blue Ghia body of Troy’s and it had the headliner box. From the body number it was about Nov 55. It had an awesome 3 row speaker grill……
Later, I bought a Jan 56 production Ghia that had the same. Must have been in March/April when they made this change to flocking and used up old stock. This Jan car had the aluminum trim, one piece rear C channels and took Beetle type rubber to seal the hood and deck lid with the crimp strip.

Today I took the door regulators and cleaned and lubricated them. No rust or wear really nice units. I was then able to put all of the door hardware in and the windows. Up and down very smooth.
The windows must need to be dropped to put the window felts in
I believe I only need one felt from what i remember where later cars use an inside and outside.
Looking to put the rest of the glass in next. _________________ http://karmannghias.org/

Big two days on the Ghia
Yesterday saw the door hardware and door windows installed. Then the rear parcel tray.
Today my brother came out and we put in the front and rear windshield and mounted/fitted the hood and decklid.
Good amount of time setting panel heights.
Maybe side windows, engine and bumpers this weekend.

Putting the chrome trim on the windows afterwards ? I know that for the beetle it should be mounted before but I never did it on a ghia ☺️☺️

Another good day.
Rear quarter windows in, bumpers on, license light on.
Bumpers were very time consuming but the original one piece front and tears with enclosed bumpers guards are back in place.

Thanks for all of the support!
Need some help on trimming the quarter window rubber and the rubber on top of the door. Maybe this is an early part.
From the early parts manual we show part 55 141837497
that is located on the door and create the seal to the bottom of the B pillar trim. I had it sitting on the B pillar area in the photo and realize this goes on the door now. Notice the part say Left but quantity 2. There is an angle cut in the aluminum hold down that does make this side specific.
My door is close to this overlap of the B pillar rubber seal
UPDATED 6/13 with part number for rubber end piece supports, aluminum pieces and 2 screws that hold down the rubber end piece

Mine was missing that piece, I bet there is no seal available for it. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Thanks , How is the rubber cut that runs around the quarter window under the B pillar trim? Does it go under the trim or is it cut flush with its chrome.
Here is a better picture of mine. I have not trimmed anything yet.

On the outside it appears to be cut flush on the angle, the inside slightly longer. They have probably shrunk up over the years. Cut them long and trim a little at a time, would probably help if the door rubber was on so you could match them up?

Thanks for the photos and I will mull it over and move to the engine while I think on this.
Took about 3 hrs and engine is in.
And yes the original Judson diagram to cut the hole, I got with the NOS scoop, allowed everything to clear.
Need to mount the oiler and make a few connections.

Need help where choke cable runs
I see 4 holes 1-4. What is in each?
The tube I did not give a number is the speedo cable.
So we have dimmer, brake light switch and choke cable
One of the cables, maybe the clutch used 2 holes. Maybe 1 and 4?
My picture from back in the day did not highlight this nor did I make some
Sketches, as is typical of me.

I can see the choke cable clearly, looks like it goes through the hole, no.1. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I used holes 2 and 4. My cable was from Ghia girl years ago. It was plenty long to run to the Judson and not need an extension. Had to trim 4 inches off the jackets and works great.
