Okay...lets just say that the best cv joint you can buy goes to 29 (just for the sake of argument). On my bug, (which you can barley get a feeler gauge between the drive flange and the frame horn) has nowhere near 18 inches of travel available at even 30 degrees. So where are they getting it from? _________________ No more circus midget ...Vote for Herbie.

I think that 18-inches of travel is a little extreme for most guys using 3x3's. I've heard that cycling that much is possible, but I wouldn't ride too far away from the trailer with it. Doing it on a Baja would be even more tricky with dual pivot trailing arms. Unless you used highly offset wheels or some funky camber angles built into the trailing arm, body contact would limit down travel considerably.
To dial in that kind of travel I think some of the tricks would include race prepped CV's for a little more articualtion. The setup would probably have the transaxle positioned perfectly front to rear to allow the CV's the most range of motion. The setup would also include micro stubs axles with slightly longer drive axles to help the situation as well. I am sure there are more tricks, but that stuff is intended for the guys with more money than tools.

So...back to what you said earlier, if you're going that far, why run 3x3's? _________________ No more circus midget ...Vote for Herbie.

No only that, but you couldn't run typical 3x3's anyway. It takes a special bearing carrier for microstubs. So, a guy would have to "intend" on running the entire setup before he even ordered a part.

From some of the pictures I've been seeing the blind chicken racing arms are not too strait or fabricated accurately. What is the most travel seen from a king and link front en by any of you guys. And if you know the dimensions of arms, beams, etc.. |

I think you can get about 15-16 inches with 4 over arms.

Have you ever seen arms larger than that? I want at least 20 inche of wheel travel. I don't want to make it into an A-arm suspension. I guess i can design some arms 7 or 8 inches longer. |

You could have some made however you will run into tire clearance unless you extend the front end like 12 inches or so.It would be kind of impractical. |

also the longer your front arms are, the more likely you are to run into tie rod clearance issues _________________ OGST | CU05 | OGJHC

I've seen 6.5 inch longer arms with 19 inches of travel on a older class 100 car my buddy had. It worked well but did have to be set up a little diffrent than normal for clearence issues to tie rods. |

i have 3x3s with no shocks(reason i lost the single port motor) and type one cvs i would say it cycles 12 inches of travel without the cvs binding. i think its because they are so worn they can move that much but i have had them on there for about 6 months now with no problems. lol |
