Anyone know where I can score an ashtray and a horn assembly for my 71 bay window deluxe. Also, how do you find out what the original paint color was for your vehicle? I'm new to buses, but this is my 5th VW! |

Patricia,
I think I have a spare ashtray. It is for the front, and has the shift pattern on it-- is this the one you need?
E-mail me your address if you want it. |

As to the paint code, if you're lucky, there's a rectangular paper sticker behind the drivers's seat with the code on it. If you're not so lucky, you might have to go for a birth certificate. If you do a search of the forums for birth cert., you should find the relevant information to obtain one. Jeremy |

I checked behind the driver's seat in my 74 and low and behold I had the plate shown on the right, but not the left one. It did have the import plate in the door frame though, so maybe that's why they didn't put the other tag on. The 77 I rebuilt and sold had the original paper paint code sticker on the bulkhead behind the driver's seat though. I chose to go with the bright orange from an earlier year though, and a pastel white top, looked great! Jeremy |
