I havent even started on my project square yet but thinking ahead a bit about color... I think the original color for my square was Diamond Blue not 100% sure just yet and also considering any color thats going to do a squareback justice... The purist in me wants a VW color from any era but im also entertaining other options... I really like the Mazda Red but its hard to blend repairs on that color and just read about it chipping not sure if its a factory prep deal or product they used but either way thats likely out cause of blending it if ever was a problem...
Whats your favorite color you've sprayed on a VW? Pics would really get the juices going on this one...

I saw a late model Subaru Forester today whose color looked very close to Pearl White. _________________ “If you care for a thing long enough, it takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? Mending old things, preserving them, looking after them – on some level there's no rational grounds for it.”

That Bug right there is beautiful! I know and appreciate what kind of time it takes to paint a car like that! I did this on our daughter's Jetta a number of years ago.
My favorite color for a late Beetle is the bright green metallic that VW put on them starting in '73.
As for the square back... my sister bought one years ago in dark green. She didn't like it so I repainted it in a chocolate brown with gold sparkle pearl in the clear coat. I rather liked it but she didn't. Later she had it re-sprayed in a medium blue metallic. To me it took the car from a classy looking ride to something completely mundane/ordinary/boring!
Blue in my view is WAY overused and does not belong on cars unless it is an outstanding shade. I don't mind a deep rich blue or a bright sparkly blue metal flake but the rest of them you could throw into a blue lake and I would not miss them. This is my wife's car and to me it's... tolerable... nothing more. It seems all the ladies swoon over it "Oh, it is so beautiful!" ...Not!
We both really miss the color of her last one. That is one car we never had trouble finding at the mall!
White is the next most overused color if you are talking mundane/ordinary and want something that will camouflage your car in a parking lot. The exception to that is the pearl whites we see now on some new cars. I like that!
I would put a pearl white on a type 3 wagon. Probably my favorite VW color for the type 3 was yellow. Second in the running is orange. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |
