Hello everybody, please help me. I am so frustrated. I recently painted my 1958 beetle that I’m restoring single stage black Omni. The paint Job came out pretty good with only a little bit of peel in some areas. I decided to start color, sanding and buffing and immediately ran into problems doing the driver side door. The process was exactly the same as the last car I painted. I started off wet sanding with thousand grit, 1500 grit, 2000 grit and then I started to buff. I am using Maguires ultra cut because that’s what I use last time. I am also using 3M polish because that’s what I use last time with great results. The problem is no matter what I do , I am not getting a deep black shine. I am getting areas that are very cloudy and it looks like crap. I tried re-wet sanding. I’ve tried buffet multiple times. I just cannot figure out what is going on. I have three heavy coats of paint on there I just keep getting and milky cloudiness all over the door panel please help what am I doing wrong? I’ve tried letting compound dry. I’ve tried wiping it off wet after I buff. I cannot figure it out.

You need to be sanding way finer. On black, I would go up to 5000 grit. I'd also recommend trying the Rupes compound system, it's the best I've used.

Yes, as recommended above I would use a good quality paper and a higher grit.

What kind of polisher, pads, and speed, and technique you are using helps determine the final results as well.

Put a bright light on those panels and take a photo and then post them to see if they are finishing out swirl free.

Though I agree with what has been said about your buffing technique, I've sprayed the same product and I thought that the paint looked a bit brown and not pure black. I also thought it looked a little cloudy. The ladies at the paint shop told me that to get a very pure black, I'd have to move up to a more expensive paint.

Just my experience. Good luck with your project.
