Can you still buy tachometers for 6 volt electrical systems? Does anyone know where I could one?
Thanks- |

I am not sure, but I have seen 12v to 6v electrical drops. Maybe that could be incorporated somewhere to make a 12v tach work. _________________ _-Justin-_

For that to work, you'd have to have an inverter for 6v to 12v. There out there, you just have to find them. As for a 6v tach, just be watching the classifieds, I see one come up every now and then. Good luck. _________________ -Andrew |

the 6v to 12v 'boosters' are available from JCWhitney- just a bit under $100... If you're trying to keep the old look, I'd hold out for a 6v tach. _________________ Philip

A buddy of mine had an old chrome tach. It had a switch for 6 or 12v and the switch for # of cyl. It was cool. _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

I had a 1951 GMC pickup and spent months searching for 6 new volt tachs. I'm convinced that they don't exist. By the way, 1951 GMC vehicles were positive ground, so I really had my work cut out for me!
In truth, you can go to an implement dealer as many older tractors run on 8 volt batteries and so their tachs may work for you. I can tell you that you can put an implement 8 volt battery in your car with no problems. The components will handle the extra two volts and your starter will love the extra juice on cold mornings. Works great. _________________ 1967 Basket case Bug
