|
|
Hey all,
As you can see my painter did a very poor job of painting inside the hoods front fresh air intake vent, seems he painted right overtop some existing dust. Now I am left to pick up the pieces.
Any suggestions as to how I might rectify this?

You'll need to fashion some sort of "tool" with sandpaper to get between and under. I forget the ease of access, but can you get to that area with the hood open and reach it from the backside? _________________ My other ride is a Zildjian |

Yes, I can access from the back side to sand.
Definitely more worried about the painting process _________________ 1972 Super Beetle, Parked until adequate restoration funding is acquired in restoration!

You mask the hood and vent ribs, then dust through the vents with several light coats of paint. It will take a bit to cover that way, but better than blasting paint in there and having it run. You usually do that area first before painting the entire hood -- same as the vents in the rear of the car. _________________ Kafer_Mike

On your first pass of color, ignore the vents and paint as though they are not there. On the second pass, slightly angle the gun to be parallel with the inside metal. As previously noted, do not TRY to get the paint in there as you'll most likely cause a run with too much buildup. _________________ My other ride is a Zildjian |

Yup, I have painted the vents on the back of the car separate and then done the rest of the car and let the over spray land. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

Ill give it a shot. Unfortunately I plan to spray the colour with those shitty "preval" cannisters. We will see how it goes.
Worst case I guess I re-sand and do it over with a real gun _________________ 1972 Super Beetle, Parked until adequate restoration funding is acquired in restoration!

I removed the base panel from in the engine bay to do mine, then fixed it back in with rivets and structural panel adhesive after painting. |
