Having had the great experience of an apprenticeship with VW/Porsche starting way back in 1969 I have learned many things regarding German air-cooled cars... but one lesson was a gift for life: "if you are struggling you are doing it wrong."
Thank you Albert Stebel (service manager/German master mechanic, Truman Motors El Cajon 1969)
His point being that when working on cars there is a correct way and it does not include a struggle. Took me years to really understand the lesson, but once learned, I came to see it as a larger concept true for VWs and true for life too.
