I am new to this site as just started restoration of a 64 Beetle.. I had about 15 bugs back in the late 60's early 70's but never really paid much attention to keeping them original.. This one I would like to.. I believe the color on it is JAVA GREEN. Is there someone in this bug world that could provide me some pictures of an original car of both exterior and interior? I just cannot imagine what Java Green with a Brown interior looks like.. http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=view...mg][/list] |

I am confused on the color .. I am not sure now that it my car is Java green after looking at your car. My 64 is a light green - almost a mint green but it is not showing on color charts unless it is the Bahama blue?? What gives here?? confused!! |

I took a look at your pics and your car isn't Java green. Hard to tell really from the pictures and it looks pretty sun bleached. To get a good idea as to the actual color, take rubbing compound to an area to remove some of the oxidation. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

The dash color is pretty true and shiney as is the paint under the fender parking light.. I took the color samples and it does match the Bahama blue. Thank you everyone..I think at least I am on track on the color.. It is sure neat the colors VW used.. I remember visiting the Beetle showrooms in the 60s and seeing the cars. The Bugs were so small that the showroom had one of every color displayed - and it was hard to pick a favorite color because they all looked so Cute.. For a simple car, they sure bring lots of pleasure. Restoring or driving!! |

dlxcoupe....
Keep in mind that you need L519 Bahama Blue. A few years later VW made available a slightly different color that they also called Bahama Blue (after the L519 was no longer offered). At least that's the story as I understand it...... |

If this car has an original crank back sun roof it could be the one I purchased new while in the service in Heidelberg Germany. Purchased with a dealer installed EMPI petri coach steering wheel. Total cost in 64 ($1350.00) out the door. Nice car!!! Larry |
