So while I have enjoyed countless instances of kindness of the last 2 years, we had another situation when my wife fell on our front steps and shattered his tibia and fibula.

Hospital, surgery (rod, screws and plates) made it hard for her to get out (and I am unable to drive at night) but low and behold MY former work colleagues decided to send us $500 worth of Walmart gift cards. These were MY old work colleagues...just astounding.

We got food and supplies delivered as she tried to get around and I tried to take care of the house and dog. Stressful as hell but people have been so generous and giving it brings tears to my eyes daily.

I just don't think I will ever be able to give back enough before my time comes. I am trying though!

Yesterday ...

The wife & I were having subs inside Wally-World. A guy came in pushing a shopping cart with a cane/crutch thingy (not sure what to call it, it has a hand pole & cups the arm just beow the elbow).
He struggled to get his feet far out in front of him to take a proper step. He was moving forward but it was obviously difficult.

I went to both sides of the store & even scoured the front 4 rows of the parking lot looking for one of those electric ride-on carts for him.
I don't know if he needed nor wanted that but I tried.

I resumed my flatbread tuna & he was on his way out.

He never knew ...

I won't stop trying ... stay safe

jinx

There are really honest people who really try to help, but lately, I see more of Guilty Consciences. and "Hey! look at me! I just helped someone!"

My daughter is out shopping and hears some commotion, Man down not breathing heart attack? Maybe. She’s a nurse and begins CPR with another Good Samaritan while many just watch and some are using cellphones to take pics and video. Nobody even called 911 until prompted. This happened early afternoon SoCal Walmart. Help did arrive but it’s unknown if the man survived. At least two people here attempted to show kindness

With all the liability concerns and confusion in California, that was courageous of the nurse to start first aid. Liability is even higher for a trained professional. If sued, she could be bankrupted even if she wins. Some "good Samaritan" legal reform has helped, but it's still murky and risky in California. So sad we've come to this.

So when I was diagnosed with cancer and had radiation I had some REALLY funky looking hair as a result Crying or Very sad Laughing . My wife's hairdresser, who is a friend from when our kids played sports together in grade/high school, told me to come in and she would do what she could. And she did a fantastic job making me look kinda human.

She would make my appointments for the next cut and after every cut I would try to pay her but she said that she made a "pact with God" that if she survived her breast cancer she would help others. Thankfully, after some REAL hard chemo, she is doing wonderfully. So for 2 1/2 years now she has been giving me free haircuts. I try to pay for dinner for her and her husband when I see them at the local pub, but she will not take anything for the cuts.

Early this year she inherited a Christmas tree farm from her father and has been working it in addition to running her salon. We went to get a tree there which he also gave to my family for free. Rolling Eyes Unbelievable......

So when she called today to reschedule my wife's upcoming cut because she was "too busy at the tree farm" I grabbed the phone and said "What days and time do you need me to help?"

So it looks like I will be volunteering to haul and bail Christmas trees for a the next few weeks Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I am SO excited to be able to help out......

nice work jspbtown Applause

it's amazing how a haircut can make you feel more human. I used to cut my dad's hair in his last years, mind you he was lucky to keep both ears and not have a reverse mohican as his dementia meant he couldn't hold still d'oh!

Sometimes its just the little things...

SUPER cold and windy up here in the NE today. I walked in from the parking lot and got into my infusion chair and within 20 seconds a nice, elderly, hospital "volunteer" was over with a warmed blanket. When she saw my big smile, she left and got another one and put it on me and "tucked me in".

I felt good. Dancing

Those warm blankets in the hospital are awesome.
