I always look forward to the updates.
Simply amazing work.
Are you planning on using later marker lights?
|
I am not sure what you are asking. Those are the correct turn signals for a December 1957 KG.
What is a "later maker light"?
FYI, I have NOS turn signal housings and headlight rings. |
I thought they look very similar to the later Ghia's.
I thought all lowlights had a similar front markers like this.
After looking at 57's and 58's it's plain to see I was wrong.
Learned something new. Carry on |
That's the beauty of (early) 58s. Bullet turn signals, dashes with side rib details, no dash pad, tall battery hold down and straight not angled rear upper shock mounts on the pan. Subtle little differences. _________________ '58 Ghia 2387cc with a Berg / Folts 5 Speed

This side hammer area on the door is going to take some techniques and patience to get back to good. These old repairs cause so much damage and stress on the metal.
I came up with this really effective way to use VW parts to fix VW parts
I used a torsion cover plate and a shift couple screw to raise the sheet metal back up. This is one of many steps I will take to try to understand what the metal will need to do to find its way home.
It’s hard to tell in the photos how much I’m moving the metal but I can say it is quite a bit. I’m trying hard to not over pull it but at the same time I’m trying to get it just past flush a bit so when I weld it I can hit it with compresses air to shrink the stretched metal and have it settle down to flush with the surrounding area.

So in the effort to control the metal I need to use the the the jack to try to raised a large area of the door that was collapsed from the original damage and then again from the force of the slide hammer pulling outwardly. I will crank the jack into the contour gauge tells me that it is as it should be ( like the rest of the undamaged parts of the door). I will leave that jack in that position while I use the dent fix machine to pull the last of the low spots. The goal is to get everything as smooth as u can before the welding begins.

More updates...
Jason had a correct Lowlight deck lid latch laying around the shop so he threw it on.
He also got the drivers door hung with the freshly rebuilt hinges. Check out
how smooth it opens and closes! Also look at the gaps. Near perfect without much attention.
