It’s always good when you can build a car like this and do it right first time. On my car I’ll have to strip the interior out to fit sound mat but luckily it’s not too big a job.
For your window seals you could always create a hot box by placing them in a box or container of some sort and directing a fan heater at them to soften them up. |

It’s been around 100 degrees F here the past few months
We finally get Autumn weather at the wrong time lol
Today the sun is out and it’s supposed to be mid 80’s so I’m out there at it again _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

Today I was able to install the new seals and chrome with my wife’s help
That’s a huge step forward for me
Now I can finish up other stuff that was waiting like the radio , wipers, and the rest of the dash controls _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

Since I got the windshield installed, I was finally able to install the wiper motor et al.
With the wiper motor in place, I could also install the wiper switch and headlight switch
You’ll notice the sapphire I is installed , but it is not functional
You may also notice that the new steering wheel came in from JBugs and that was installed
It’s pretty nice
With the dash and wiring well underway , I noved to the doors so I can close off the cabin
I started with the passenger door
And literally stripped it completely
I then did the same with the driver door
That one didn’t go so well
There is a big section of body filler in the bottom corner
So I stripped that off with a wire wheel to reveal this
It’s pretty bad
And the b post is kinda banged up
I may replace this door again
For now, I’ll continue in the passenger side _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

Started to work the “good” door
More blocking to do , but it’s shaping up _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

The other doors are too much work
So…
I sourced replacements (yes, again lol)
These are really straight and have minimal rust
They are primered and stripped .
They look to be original metallic teal blue, but that’s not even a VW Color
They even have markings
Anyway, it’s gotta go so I can see what I’m dealing with
I applied the aircraft stripper
And the driver side
They look pretty good
I still have to clean up the inside of the doors
But at least it’s progress _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

Small update
But lots of elbow grease to get here
It’s hard to tell, but they are back down to bare metal
Applying a little filler heat and there and then some priming next weekend
It’s supposed to rain tomorrow or I’d do it then _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

Epoxy primer today on a few parts
Temps were colder than I like
The other paint booth was full so o had to use the one without heat
It’ll be fine, it’s just the first step
Sanding ,sealer, and color still to come _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

After a week of raining , I decided to change out that firewall insulation that I had installed backwards several weeks ago
Started here
Took off the top part of the engine to access them
And then installed some nice waffle print insulation
I am much much happier with these _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

waffle print insulation |
The style I've seen is only a single layer of rubber, maybe only half the thickness of the original factory "tarboard" insulation. Did you add any type of a rigid backing to not only increase thickness, but also improve the stiffness so that the rubber that's far away from the retention tabs does not bulge out? |

I noticed that it was much thinner
But it’s also, flexible so it was easier to install
No, I didnt back it with anything
I have killmat inside the car itself and it’s a ragtop
Thicker tarboard can only do so much _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

Took a few parts down to the shop to sand on a little bit
Found a few issues that still need adressed, but at least I have a dry place to do it now
The doors are really my focus now _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

Are you sanding the epoxy or is that a fill primer? Looks like its surfacing real nice. |

epoxy primer.
The same epoxy primer from Eastwood that I used on the body itself a few months back _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

The doors have been painted
I sprayed them with primer / sealer but forgot to take a picture
Then I sprayed the doors with L87 Perlweiss

Well
The bungee cords broke and one door crashed to the ground
The upper left corner took the most damage
So I had to bang it out and weld it because it’s thin and ripped
I didn’t take pics of the repair because I was in the groove
Hung up the next set of parts and the damaged door
I sprayed the sealer (forgot pics again)
And then sprayed 6-7 coats of paint on those parts as well
All of those parts are curing in the booth tonight
The doors are my priority so I can seal up the cabin _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1
