is anyone out there able to measure from the end of the steel sleeve for the clutch cable, to a point of reference on the transmission of a 1975 + bay.
working on a customer van today, some time back someone has used to clutch cable sleeve as a jacking point, it's been squashed in a few different directions, and it's been really badly welded to the torsion bar housing, l'm going to have to replace the sleeve, and l need to be sure l get it back where it belongs so l don't have problems adjusting the clutch.
the van has a 3215mm clutch cable in it, it's been damaged and kinked by the crushed tube, and the fact that it ran out of adjustment, so a PO has put in a 9/16'' spacer, between the end of the flexible tube, and the bracket on the side of the transmission, which has also caused damage.
l have just ordered a 3200mm cable, which l know it shouldn't need.
l can't find my bentley book, so l can't look to see if it's in there.

not sure what you are after. The cable sits in a housing that is welded via a bracket near where it exits. If that is loose the clutch can have all sorts of issues. Your best bet is to see if one of the other buses near you in San Diego is available for you to take the measurements you need. Interstate VW might have some parts buses you could cut what you need. I think they are in 29 Palms now. Ask Aeromech or Robbie if they know of a sunroof bus you can measure. If you weld to the tube, make sure your weld does not penetrate the tube because if it is rough on the inside it may wear thru the cable.

Straighten it best you can by hand/pry bar, and pull a rope/cable/twine through with a stopper on one end. Cut the cord, pull it out, and measure it. That will get you within a few mm if you're careful.

OP needs the exact dimension between the end of the clutch cable guide tube and the bracket on the transmission, or between the guide tube end and a fixed reference point on the chassis.

Best I could do at the moment is a photo taken of a Bus where the guide tube had broken and we repaired with a sleeve. Might be helpful. Sorry can't measure.

i think he want the distance that the tube extends past the torsion beam tube,so he can get the proper fit for the bowden tube, the distance from the bowden tube mount on the trans to the end of the tube might serve his needs.
if this is what you are looking for,you could put the bowden tube in place,on the trans, bend it for the required sag ,and see where it lands at the tube end, install the new tube to meet the bowden tube.my tube was also crushed, bent and broken at the torsion tube.
