Yesterday I welded the holders for the adjustable nuts into the doorwindow rail mounts.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

After this I tested to fit the rails with mounts into the doors. I weld the mounts to the doors later though when i mount the doors to the body to ensure the right angle to the cab frame and windscreen pillars.

Got to fix a few things inside while there is easier access before welding though.

Thanks!
Got started on the second door today! Inner structures welded and got the outer patch tackwelded!

The shape even is a mirror image of the first door.

Brought the body home from storage in the end of October so my main focus is now to work on that. It's been in storage in 15 years so there's some that needs attention too.. And also some work that a younger me with less experience have done that needs to be improved...
You can see the full project in The Hebster52 link in my signature below.

Here a photo of the body outside my garage last weekend.

Late to this thread, but WOW, amazing work. Metal fab like that is fun, and really not that hard *if* you take your time and are very patient. Making templates, hammer dollies/bucks is all do able without many special tools. Grinding and flattening (flat filing) welds also takes time but with patience you can make a perfect looking all metal repair/mod. Nice work Habster52, and your welds are very nice and neat! Messy, cold and lumpy welds take SO much more time to grind, flatten and sometimes re-fill. When you get your MIG dialed in for the sheet metal thickness you are using , it is very gratifying.

Keep the pics coming!

Thanks. Yes, the door work is mostly just time-consuming. Lot of work on small details and most annoying part was to first restore them before even starting the modification work... Laughing

Bodywork would also been easier to do all from the start again as my skills have improved a lot compared to what I could do when I started the bodywork on this over 20 years ago... Embarassed

Like John Henry, I’m late to the thread but enjoyed reading and viewing the way you converted the ribbed doors to replicate the conversion carried out on Hebmullers. Your skill and patience will ensure a fantastic car will be made. I’m half way through restoring the body shell on my 54 and know how long each detail takes to get right. Well done and thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Kristian is doing a great job in recreating the proto type. For all other Heb builders around that are working on the doors... this is a prototype style door with a slight difference in the end part near the B pillar. THe goal for Kristian is to build as accurate as possible. And believe me, it is not as simple as you think.

Thanks Peter for your nice words and support through the years of research and for keeping on pushing me forward on this project!

Without you and several other supporters this project would not be what it is now becoming! Pray
More progress to come very soon in the complete project thread. Link below in my signature. Wink
