Axel Struwe in Germany, Splitpartsunlimited, and Kaefer Nostalgie all make the correct early beading. I bought from Axel and the beading is very nice, and not at all like the common replacement rubber bead.
I have heard bad reviews of the stuff sold here in the US, not sure about the supplier from Argentina

Wolfsburg West and West Coast metric sold decent fender molding at one time as well.

By "early" fender beading, I mean the textured cloth that was used until sometime in 1955

I have taken apart several pre-55 original cars going as far back as the late 80's and have never seen cloth fender beading. Where are you getting your info? I know that people sell it claiming it is OG, but where is the source of truth that it came on a Beetle? I'm genuinely curious. Progressive refinements have no mention.

This is the correct early oval plastic beading. It has the fine ribbing (not clearly visible in my crappy photo from ~15 years ago).

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I did get to speak with the owner of a very original 50 this past summer, and he confirmed that his car had the textured cloth beading on some of the fenders when he got it. A friend of mine has a pretty original 51 that I need to check next time they have it out of storage..
For sure most cars that I've seen have had the rubber bead, but most are not original, so I'm only going by what I've read and heard in discussion.. I could be wrong.

Jan is 100% correct. Unfortunately, all of the reproductions have incorrect ribbing and are much softer. They are hard to get installed correctly. It would be amazing if someone reproduced something close to original.

The precut ones WW sells are too short in the front. I think CIP1 sells rolls that you can cut. Might be a better option.

I didn't like all the stuff on the market. I went to a hotrod shop and got fender beading for a 40 Ford. It's not shiny.
