Can someone tell me what this hole on the lower corner is used for ?
Also, in the top of the photo is a Phillips pan head screw into a small welded plate that does not appear to be used either.
Side note-anyone know where I could get a plug for this oblong hole in the floor. I’m missing one of the four.
Extra points for one for the no longer used ECU harness hole, but being round, that should be easier.

Almost positive the Philips screw on the upper deck is for the seat/bed hinge bracket. |
Interesting, because they aren’t being used on my van. Wonder if I left something out last time I pulled the interior? _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

I've made several large grommets for round or irregular holes like that using 1/2" thick rubber, cutting it similarly shaped but larger than the hole, and then making a shallow slice around the perimeter. |

The part I'm pointing to in the picture is where the bracket sits and the screw goes through into the body. Terrible picture but it's the only one I could find. It wa in the classifieds.

I perused Ace, Lowe’s & Home Depo.
The largest they sell is 1-1/2” (as you stated, hole is 2” / ~50.5mm measurement)
The heater holes are 1-1/16”. (27.2mm)
I found 1” and 1-1/4” metal plugs.
Note: BusLab does sell plugs that fit the heater holes.
The elongated plug remains elusive.
I can fabricate something, but was hoping for a simple quick solution. For now it’s gorilla tape. I might try McMaster, but now it’s getting ready for West River Westies (VT), followed the next weekend by Bike Hoopla (western MA) and then Jerry Jam (VT) _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

The M6 threaded hole is for a Westfalia weekender bench. |
Yes, the ones on the floor I’m using (although I think they may be M8, but I shouldn’t doubt you!) I just installed the seat today and noted a couple of other curiosities that would qualify me for the dull men’s club. Perhaps, I’ll post later to bore everyone.
The sidewall hole is unused (and the top threaded one mentioned with screw installed). Just curious as to their function.
Maybe for tin top rear seats? _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

No I'm talking about the M6 on the top , over the engine, same level as the engine lid. _________________ Silicone Steering Boots and 930 Cv boots for sale in the classifieds.

Hmm, mine is not using those M6 upper attachment points. I put the seat back in yesterday - I don;t think I am missing anything-I hope! I wish I had taken pictures for future reference, but I did locate this one
I found someone else stating the same:

I think the Weekender bench hinges are significantly different than a full camper. The Weekender bench sits lower when in seat mode but folds out to the same height as a full camper when in bed mode. The Weekender hinges don't have those mounting bars that extend towards the rear and affix to the top of the rear deck. |
I'm at West River Westies this weekend, I'll try to remember to poke around a few man - mind you all for this geek's curiosity's sake. _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

I shouldn't be on TheSamba late at night, I meant Westy camper but was reading weekender . But the body shells were made the same way for both , just the interior varies, that's why it's so easy to retrofit them. _________________ Silicone Steering Boots and 930 Cv boots for sale in the classifieds.

I just made one last weekend for a 1.5" X 2.5" oval hole in an '85 Adventurewagen I own. I had the rubber on hand - left over 3/8" thick sheet that I bought previously for a different project. Making the grommet took less than 20 minutes to cut it out and install it. It would have taken me longer just to drive to the local hardware and look at the grommets that were all too small... |
