they are collecting seeds of rare or endangered plants in australia. the pallets are for transporting them I guess

Australian dusty conditions?

Once they fixed the engine vent placement design flaw in Australia by placing them above the beltline, all Australian produced buses had the high vents.

It was a rarely seen option available on German produced buses. I have only seen one, and it was built in Hanover and delivered to Iran. It is currently for sale in the Netherlands.
