Any issues with these on EMPI 5.5” 8 spokes?
Standard ride height with slight positive camber.
I want to increase my final gear.
205 is 1” taller than the 185/70 tires on there now.
Should be the better way of freeway flyer concept and I increase ratio in every gear.

Not apples to apples but at least gives you a comparison to start with.

I run a 205/70/15 on the rear of my 59 Beetle with a 67 long axle transmission (swing axle).

Wheels are 15x5.5 Gasburner replica. They have 5" backspace and i am running wheel adapters from 5x205 to 5x130. I believe they are around 1-1.25" thick.

The rear of the beetle is close to stock height, maybe lowered an inch.

The tread of the tire is almost past the wheel arch. The sidewall bulges past the arch. They almost never rub the fender unless there is a really big dip in the road, and/or i have both kids in the back seat.

I have tried 215/75, 195/65 and neither looked quite right.

Sorry I can't offer any experience yet, but I'm looking at grabbing some 205 70/15s for the back of my '59. I don't have them yet but from what I've heard they will tuck under the fenders. I think 215/70-15s might be a different story, but I could even be wrong about that.

I've converted my bug to 4 x 130 bolt pattern, and I have a brand new set of black 5.5" 8 spokes from CIP1 mounted on 195s in the rear and 185s in front. I also searched high and low and scored a set of used Gold painted Spirit Of America 5.5" 8 spokes. I would like to run those instead of the late model ones due to the different center cap and due to the fact they are already Gold painted. I've hunted for those for years.

Good luck

Ted

I have 205/70R15's on the rear of my short axle/short spline oval, with 5.5" wide slotted wide 5 steelies from CIP1. They fit but barely cleared the spring plate. I added a 1/4" spacer and it still has plenty of clearance with the fender.

I had 205/70R15's on the rear of my '70 with some American Racing Le Mans wheels. These are 5.5" wide and roughly 4" of backspacing. No issues. I think you should be fine.

A Baja, but it might help; these are general grabber 205/70/15 on the front and 31x10.5 in the rear.
