It was time for the annual autumn drive. Beautiful, sunny weather, 20+ C deg, 400km, some windy mountain roads.
The good: cars handled very good, and now I wonder again about modifying the gearbox. That short, 1200, gearbox is soooo nice uphill! Only top speed is an issue. So, back to the drawing board and looking for an "intermediate" gearbox, 4.125 R&P.
The bad: carburetor is an old one, not properly tuned. I do not know what jets are in it. Therefore, the fuel consumption was very high (10.9l/100km), compared to my car with 1.6 and dual Dellortos, which showed ~7.8l/100km. I'll just buy a new one, I don't want to bother with this one, it was borrowed from a friend anyway.
Second bad: when we got home, the battery was fizzing. Checked charging, and it is overcharging, 17V. I have a regulator laying around, I will test that one. Well, this one is overcharging, mine is not charging, so as an average, all is good ).
Now, pics:

I swapped the regulator, charging works now. Now let's see if I can repair the old one. _________________ '74 1303S, L98B Viperngrun (extra glitter), German Look

Voltage regulator: I modified the faulty one for hooking up an external regulator, to have as spare if ever needed.
I replaced the carburetor to a new 34PICT3 from BBT, tuned the idle, but it does not run right during driving. It has sudden surges of power, then power comes back as shocks. Seems like it's lacking fuel. Also, it was strange that I was pushing the pedal and RPM would not increase at all, it just idled. I need to check it.
Now, pics. We took the Bugs to bring the Christmas tree home. I must admit, green on red looks better than green on green.
