Too bad this happens. Back in the 90's I got ripped off by TCI for an engine and induction system I payed for. I used them because Hot VW's magazine used them on an engine project. Well neither of us got our engines as TCI went bankrupt but still took people's money. I even called Hot VW magazine and the editor personally walked to the TCI bldg as it was right around the corner from their publishing office. He called me back with the bad news that the bldg was locked up by the sheriff pending a filing of bankruptcy. TCI owed them about 40 grand in advertising money too. I went to mofoco before I ordered from TCI but because mofoco didn't want to build the race engine I wanted I ended up going to TCI. They (mofoco) said "just stick with a stock 1600". Plus I got there just around lunch time and as I was talking to the counter guy another guy comes in the side door and says "lunch is here" and just like that, everyone went darting towards the guy! Just left us standing there. I went their with a guy I used to work with. He had a VW bus. I had a Type III fast back. We just looked at each other and said "what the hell?" Never went back and now I read all the bad BBB complaints. Geesh.

Buyer Beware!

I ordered a turnkey engine from Mofoco on May 25, 2022. After over 2 years of delays and excuses, I've demanded a refund of the amount I paid for the engine I have not received.

Roy hasn't replied to the emails I've sent in over a week. I've given him until next Friday, August 9, to cancel my order and refund the full amount I paid for the engine; or I will be contacting the Wisconsin State Attorney General to lodge a complaint against his business, as well as filing a Civil suit against him and/or Mofoco to recoup my losses from paying for an engine he hasn't delivered.

I hope Roy will do the right thing, and refund what I've paid him before I have to file suit against him.

I've had several good dealings with Mofoco prior to this; but wouldn't send him a penny now, nor could I recommend him to anyone looking for VW parts.

Reporting my experience ordering a part from Mofoco website. I ordered a reverse idler gear part number 3R3-1540 (a 6 spline gear) on 1/24/2025. Three weeks later on 2/13/2025 I received a reverse idler gear part number 3R4M-1540 (a 22 spline gear). I called and was I told that the 3R3-1540 was not available and the 3R4M-1540 was a replacement for it. I explained that a 22 spline gear will not work in place of a 6 spline gear. He pulled up pictures of the 2 gears and saw that they were different and obviously not interchangeable. He also told me how difficult VW parts are to get, although I ordered the gear I needed from another supplier and received it in 3 days. I asked for a prepaid shipping label to return the wrong gear for a refund since the mistake was theirs and not mine. I was told I would be sent a prepaid shipping label. I sent an email on 2/21/2025 asking again for the shipping label. I sent another email on 3/1/2025 asking yet again for the shipping label. It is now 3/13/2025 and I have not yet received a response. The gear I ordered was on Mofoco's website and it did not say "out of stock" or anything else to make me think that there would be a delay or a problem. You do however have to agree to their terms and conditions of sale which basically says they will take your money and you will get your parts whenever you get them. I realize I did not order a 5000 dollar engine and the part I ordered was only 67 dollars but it's the principle. I guess I'll have to try to dispute the debit card charge which will probably not work. How can something so simple become so complicated? A little communication from Mofoco would have been nice.

ordered a simple pair of stock dual port heads cut for 90.5 cylinders in january.
11 months later and still no information on my order, they charged my credit card jan 2025, and will not return any emails requesting info, except one tine I was told I would be updated the next day..that was 3 months ago, this place is a total scam. they say there is a 12 week lead time on orders, so you wait just long enough so you cant get you credit card to refund you. they should be banned form Samba.

not defending MOFOCO but this guy should've bolted the intakes down and checked instead of just clunking them around to prove the point he wanted to make

An interesting thing happens in forums where everyone starts parroting the same thing and "common knowledge" takes over.
Most experts aren't.

I guess I have been Mofoco..d.
Ordered a turn key beetle engine March of 2024. Paid alot of money. I think it was a 1776 street something.
December 2024, after 10 months of a six month lead time, changed my mind and got a bus. Talked to Roy about changing to a bus engine build and he said no problem. Sent him an engine and transmission for a trade value plus another amount of money to get this engine and transmission.
Transmission he said to be done in January and engine in February. Great !
Checked on this in February and still working on transmission. ok...cool.
Lost interest in bus after lead time past and sold the bus.
March 2025 changed back to beetle engine, Roy said no problem.
March, April, May ...Roy said transmission done in the next couple weeks and engine by the middle of June. OK....cool !
June Roy said transmission finishing up next week and engine in August....uh...ok
July....I have lost interest, life changes. Asked if it was possible to just refund me. Roys response was that refunding wasnt possible and again close to finishing transmission and engine in August.....ok then.
August nothing, September can't get bearings and push rods.....WHAT ??!! haha
Asked several times from then until now...December and nothing nothing nothing.
What the hell ?
Yes, I asked to change things, but being told dates and excuses throughout almost two years now ?
I don't want to take nay further action but I have a sister in law lawyer that wants to take this and do something with it...and she is a B****.
Why not just refund ?
Why not just get whatever motor I'm getting done ?
Why not respond with some truth ?
Aggravation !
Anyone else have ideas ?....suggestions ? Hell, I'm close to driving up there and knocking on the door I guess.
I have ALOT of money paid into this.
I read all the other comments from people and told myself that there is no way this could happen from Mofoco.
Well......here I am.
No nothing.
