Hello Samba community!
I have a friend who is trying to find his dad's old Bay Window camper bus.
They lived in Mexico, specifically in the San Luis Potosí area, approximately 15-20 years ago. The bus was owned by Antonio Silva Oseguero and was originally red but later repainted with a two-toned, non-factory paint scheme. A darker silver on the top half and copper lower. May have had widened OE steel wheels, a spare tire mounted in the front, and a bull bar mounted to the stock front bumper.
To the best of our knowledge, the Mexican plate was either VTI-70-99 or UTI-70-99.
His son says the van was sold in 2006, possibly between August and November. It could have been sold in San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, or, least likely, Mexico City.
Any help would be appreciated!
He would like nothing more than to find it and gift it back to his dad.

These cars were made with thin steel and poor corrosion protection by today’s standards. It’s thin odds that they survive 20 years or more, unless they get laid up somewhere. _________________ 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🍊 🍊 🍊 |

good luck. I finally found my old 1971 bus. It was totaled by a garbage truck. Without a VIN, you'll be lucky to find it let alone verify it is the right bus. _________________

Thanks for the responses so far. Just hoping to find some luck.
We have an update, we found the original pic of the bus. Plate is actually UYY-70-99. 2004-2006 San Luis Potosí plates.

So Steve,
If I can dig up the VIN from my first 1971 bus that I owned for 26 years and sold to a guy in the UK in 2006 could you maybe find it? The bus took a boat ride and that’s the last I know of it. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum
