Saw this bracket inside of the front quarter panel of my 65. There's one on both sides. It's welded to the door jam side. It's curved like it's supposed to hold something, but it not touching any other panels.

Defrost tube bracket. The tube connects to the hole at the down at the bottom coming out of the heater channel. Heard they are a pain to reconnect, but I've never personally tried.

I can attest that they are a pain. My 64 had them sort of "crimped" you can get a slender hand down there to install new ones. I found that no matter what i did my arm came out all tore up from sharp edges down there.

Unbolting the hinge helped me alot.

Down low are sharp ends of carpet nails driven through it from the drive and passenger kick panels. Beware!

Some have used PVC pipes for the lower part to make the job easier. Search and you'll find this and other tips.

Nice approach, Matthew! Thumbs Up

But no matter how much of a 'pain' or difficult you think it is with a Beetle sedan, the additional Karmann factory sheet metal bracing surrounding that area added for Convertibles makes any attempt at re-connecting that defrost hose down inside the "Bermuda Triangle" a lesson in frustration and futility! It truly is nearly impossible without dropping the pan!
