Okay, so I'm slogging along on my disaster 58 junkyard rescue. Among the things liberated from it were the tail lights and engine lid. Here's an old pic of it with the lid still mostly on it. It's a brake light lid as can be seen.
The tail light holes look like this. I see it has 2 holes, but the closest Bus I've found around here was a 59 and rather than the holes, it has notches at the top and bottom of the tail light hole, rather than separate holes.
The build date of this Bus was October 24th, 1957. From what I've seen, this should have the 58-61 tail lights, or so I've read. But then I was reading the Eccles spec book and saw this.
Is this a mistake? Would this mean this was the date they switched to the 58-61 lights and flat deck lid? Should I have the bubble ones like these? (leftover from my old barndoor)
What is the consensus? |

Every USA spec 1958 bus had dollar taillights. Bubble taillights were prior to mid 1957.
The Eccles book is referring to Euro spec buses. _________________ .

Brake light deck lid buses had the bubble taillights.
Flat and eyebrow decklid got the round glass taillights
Semaphore buses (eurospec) had additional details, and deck lid/taillights changed differently.
From the build date I’d think it would be glass taillights, but from the deck lid I’d say bubble taillights.
What’s the VIN?
Pic from your gallery:
296570?
From that VIN I’d think it would be like this Jan 1958 panelvan:
does it have the holes for the reflectors, like on the blue Jan 56 bus in front of the panelvan? _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/

Right, the VIN is 296570, and in looking at the corners I see no holes for those reflectors. Do bubble tail light Buses have the holes like mine has? |

Bubble taillight buses only have the big holes, no small screw holes.
The screw holes were late '57 and '58
The slots were '59-'61, which take the same style of taillight as the late '57 and '58. _________________ .
