I can’t imagine that the CDH outer case gets hot enough to be a concern, even mounted directly on the wood. I’d think you’re ok, but bonus points if the exhaust pipe is centered in the 4” hole. Intake pipe at ambient temperature can be off to the side, even right up against the wood.
Having said all that, I’ve never actually measured the case or exhaust pipe temp… maybe someone has & can report in.
Anyone?

Thanks so much! Glad to be here. I've got a new to me 1986 full camper with a bright orange pop top tent in Southern California.
I should have also mentioned, the heater is mounted with a metal turret mount from the amazon jungle so all these posts make me worry a lot less.
