I have found a car local to me that I may be able to source the bumpers from, this is a 69 convertible, could I make the bumpers work on my 63? I'm hoping so since I have the later rear fenders.... Any input appreciated

A 69 and a 63 would take the same style bumpers, but your car has 72-74 lower rear fenders that are different due to the larger fat bumpers that do not wrap around all the way to the wheel wells. _________________ Marc

^ Great info Nicholas Thank you!
I called and spoke with glass-action.com and I think I'm going to go with the fiberglass bumpers, 1972+
I think it makes the most sense for this project. The price is right and even shipping to Canada wasn't to bad as they are 8lbs each. |

I need interior door panels, unfortunately cip1 only stocks 1964+, my coupe is a 63.
Can I make these work, or are they significantly different ?

Well its years later... Is my Ghia on the road. Nope.
But.. Lots of body work has been done, a new floor, the awkward fiber glass front end has been sorted out, no more straps and much cleaner pins and new hinge installed.
Mechanically - I threw a ton of parts at it. Shocks, Bushings, Brakes, Lines, Steering stabilizer/shock, Fuel Pump, Carbs have been rebuilt and tune up done...Its a long list!
As of this week, I have now decided to wrap the car and am working on picking a color. I've come this far and the paint is just to tired so why not. I have an interior carpet kit ready to go, I have new door cards, and a trim kit waiting to be installed.
Its getting there! Hoping 2025 will be the year it hits the road. |

The body work continues. Started cleaning up the rust and it really has turned into "well while we're in there might as well keep going"
Cut out lots of rot, working on straightening out the body and fixing the panel gaps.

John is working with Gregg down at Vintage VWs Canada in Fort Erie Canada. There is a whole lot of VW knowledge between the two of them. He also keeps a lot of parts in stock.
Jamie from Air Cooled Connection is close by too

This will certainly work, if you want to buy a new one rather than finding a used one at a swap meet or from a CDN seller. Stock pulleys have at least one small groove in the inner side of the belt's V channel for a timing mark. You'd have to hold a degreed timing pulley over the stock one to see what degree it is for your static ignition timing. Too bad that Mark's VW parts business appears to no longer be in the Toronto area. There was also John's Bug Shop down near Niagara Falls. Per another thread he closed that shop but is still working out of a NAPA store in Welland.
Since your engine looks like it was built in the 1980's and has a mechanical-advance distributor, this style pulley would be much better. It has the black ring with single degree markings for good contrast and accuracy, stock size and the 5 large holes. This style is traditionally known as a "Santana" due to the company that first made them in the late 1960's and 1970's. Unfortunately it is out of stock from the CDN CIP1. https://www.cip1.ca/c15-80227/
This one is in stock, but has only every other degree marked. Might be your best compromise. https://www.cip1.ca/acc-c10-5882/ |
