i have an nos governor and correct intake for it. my question is; does it just bolt onto the intake? put the carb on and that's it? are there any adjustments to be made?

Hi Horvath,
Yes, as long as you have either 1200 or 1500 governor, and either 1200 or 1500 intake, and either 1200 (40 HP) or 1500 engine.
See section K-5, page 6, of the 1963-67 "Workshop Manual Volkswagen Transporter" for how to test and adjust.

It cracks me up that people still use those things. I like stock buses, but not ones that drive slow.

I guess truckersmike would not like an all stock 1957 Kombi with a 36 horse engine that can be hand crank started with or without the governor?

The governor is adjustable so it need not slow you down.

I would like to order all of that, except change the motor out for a 1776 and you can keep the govenor. Cranking starting is cool!

If you saw that bus, you'd know why he wants to keep it stock.

It is a beautiful bus, for a trailer queen Twisted Evil Like a lot of people, I have a love/hate relationship when it comes to buses that look too nice. The kind of bus that you don't drive cross country, to the mountains etc. Too each their own and I'm not going to rag on it by any means. I'm a lover of stock looking buses, but I like them when they are daily drivers with some real road ware on them.

Again, nice bus. Someday you'll sell it and pay off your house and put the kids through school. Very Happy

When I sold the Church (66 deluxe) bus a few years back I rebuilt the original 1500 (to a 1600) and retained the original govner. I drove it to the CLASSIC to delivery it to the new owners and was very impressed with it's performance with the govner. It would start to lose power exactley at every shift point on the speedo till 4th gear where the govner never seemed to kick in. Bus easily drove at 65mph and I found no ill effects on performance with the govner. IF I had a stock bus I would run one.

no offense truckersmike but i don't know anyone who stacks "real" mileage on an old vw here in NJ year round. i am not saying 2 miles back and forth to work either. i can do that! i do 800-1000 miles a week in a suit and there is no way i would even attempt to do that!

Some guys are collectors and some are drivers. If I had the money, I would fix all of the dents in my buses and put a nice paint job on them, but i'm fine with the way they look right now. I call them working class buses. Even if I did fix them up, I'd still drive through brush and dirt roads.

I have a Honda that I use to commute to work and back, but every other trip is in a bus. It saddens me to just see them sit there in my driveway collecting dust and bird shit.

I think it's great that there are people out there that have the time and money to keep some of these buses looking like they just came out of the factory. I think what started my whining was that fact that this bus, though nice, was just another 20 million dollar 23 window restoration. I've grown tired of window buses and have really learn to love campers and commercial buses instead.

i used to live 10-20 minutes from the ocean. when the weather is nice there is no substitute for a window bus w/ the popouts out, the sunroof wide open and though mine aren't all welded yet, the safaris propped open.

the reason i asked about the gov is because i found a correct intake for it and was concidering either the nos gov or the spacer vw made when one removed the gov. i'll most likely go with the spacer. and when i pull the engine i have to pull the gas tank to replace the sender. this will give me a chance to clean the entire area replace everything and then sell the bus since it's too nice to drive. see it in the classifieds soon. then i need to find a nice driver like the one john pickens drove back from terryville.
