As directed by a reply to my earlier post, I went to the Gene Berg website and found a wealth of information on aircooled motors and engine building. wow.
Has anyone here bought, built, and ran one of their kits?
They seem to be a cutting-edge authority on this stuff. Does anyone disagree? |

some people disagree with some of the bergs theories on some things..ill let other explain more if anyone wishes.
that being said you cannot go wrong with berg parts. top notch quality to say the least. i know of several of thier crakshafts still in motors with well over 150k on them. i know of berg motors that were in heavy ass bay window buses that pulled like crazy and were very diravable (combo has alot to do with this).
there are cheaper parts on the market but alot of times its a guessing game when in comes to quality. |

Some people blindly follow everything the Bergs say. I disagree with some, but 99% is good advice. And you sure can't go wrong buying parts from them.
I have a number of Berg parts in my engine, but not all.

I've been drag racing for 13 years now and run a lot of Berg parts. I have noticed over the years that as you get down to the last few rounds at the Bug-Ins, most of the last few remaining racers have Berg parts of some kind.
I only know of two parts that Berg makes that I wouldn't waste my time or money on, but hey that's just me.
Just remember, Berg was the Guru in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Some of his ideas and theories have been outdated and replaced with modern technology that wasn't available back in his day. I believe about 95% of his wisdom is still valid today.

Jake- I went to your Massive IV site and I'm quite impressed. I agree with the idea of using a larger stock motor for more power (fun), as opposed to heavily modifying the smaller engine.
Do you really get 30+ mpg from a 2 liter+ engine? That sounds great. |

Typically my engines get a minimum of 25 MPG, most around 30 MPG. I have a customer that has a 2321cc Super Hero that has been getting 33 MPG with about 170 HP.
Hell my 3 Liter gets 25 MPG and makes 235 ponies.
Bigger engines don't necessarily get worse fuel economy.. as long as they are properly designed..
Its all in the combo and the TIV has big torque that will pull tall gears and more cooling capability to aid in cooler running with lower revs..
The engine/tranny/cooling system must all be a matched unit.
Thats what I get paid for.

Jeez Jake. Your 4 cylinder engines are putting out more
hp and gas mileage than my ole gm 4.3L tbi in my truck.
