I just traded my RHD for a semi-slammed daily driver and I have never felt better... anyhow he built me a 5" narrowed beam w/o shock towers with the trade and it came with the rods and some new bearings. I know i need to narrow the leaves and dimple them (possibly hammer in the headlight buckets?)but I don't really know how... if anyone either knows how to do this and would want to give me a hand (san francisco area) i could give you some money+beer if wanted, or if you know of some in-depth instructions with pics for idiots that i could get my hands on i'd really appreciate it... PS- If you are an hour or less away and confident i could drive it home I could drive to you.

Don't worry about the head light buckets just let it rub. And leaves? who needs em? Just leave them out. Then for sure you will be repping to the fullest.

| so... besides for alex no one knows how to do this or has any help? you guys have enough time for that? or can you only fit in dumb ass comments like that? I thought this was a vw forum... you know where you ask questions and people who have done the same thing or had trouble with similar problems will help you out... not bash you. |

Your questions on cutting and dimpling the leaves have been answered over and over and would be answered by doing a forum search.
I think you lost/alienated most of the people who might be interested in helping you when you suggested clearancing your headlight buckets with a hammer. You need to be thinking about drop spindles as part of this project. They will help you stay at your current height without having your torsion arms swung so far up and forward. That may be part of why your tires are hitting your headlight buckets. |

| Major... Why would I lose respect by putting that in there? Everybody get's one in da butt when they don't search. so I searched... That's what I found. My tires do not currently rub, I read that with a 5" narrowed beam that there is a possibility, if running 135's, that you will have clearance issues with your headlight buckets. A simple question could clarify these assumptions before a bash fest begins. I am still learning, and I am still confused as to how to put this on therefore the logical answer for me would to be to ask. I'm sorry I did so. |

Hey man, it's cool. Toughen up a bit, it truly isn't personal.
If you end up having clearance problems when you get all installed, then the solution to the problems is going to be dependent on how much interference you have. You can either reshape the back of the buckets by cutting and welding or you can cut the bucket off the fender entirely at the flange, cut it for depth and reattach it. Somehow you will have to figure out whether this is going to cause the bucket to interfere with the headlight unit also. I read in another thread that someone had to resort to running Rossi lights because after the clearancing was done, there was no room in the bucket for his stock lights? Maybe I misunderstood. I read that account and thought to myself, "I would rather run two inches higher than settle for those nasty-ass Rossis."
Hopefully it won't be much interference. Save that hammer for framing walls and putting up pictures  |
