Can anyone give me advice on replacing fuel line through tunnel on my 62 bug. The line is clogged after sitting for at least 6 years. I'm going to attempt to clear it out by shoving a piece of nylon cord through it. If that doesn't work i'll have to figure out how to replace it.
Thanks. |

Thanks Andrew. Thats probably a better idea than mine. That is unfortunately a tool I'll have to borrow. We'll find out tomorrow whether my improvised method works. I am pretty determined not to replace it. I have a feeling it's more of a job than I want to get into.

This is gonna sound striange, but l once had a fule line clog on a pan for a restoration project, and being the cheap ass that l am didnt feel like replacing it either. l stuck an original throttle cable in my drill and used it as a make shift snake to run though the line. l used an original cable because they are solid cable not wound strands. This may work for you it did for me. You might even try smashing the cable on the end you are sticking into the fuel line. Good luck. Someone needs to write a book on shade tree mechanics. lol

Update...my attempt to clear line with nylon cord failed. I now know that the clog is about 8" from the end of the line where it exits the "wishbone". The throttle cable idea sounds promising. I was discussing the idea of attaching something to a drill but couldn't think of something that has the right felxability and strength. This sounds perfect. I'll find out if it works tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice [email protected]! Your suggestion worked. I used a throttle cable for a lawnmower and drilled from the back end. It only took a few minutes once I managed to get the drill in position. Now I can move on to the brakes. Wish me luck. So far almost all the parts I've needed to get it running were supplied by the previous owner. He gave me several boxes of mostly new parts. No wheel cylinders though.
