I have a 1641 DP, and when I stop at lights, stop signs, etc. it stalls within 30 secs. I can not keep it running without constant revving. Other than that, the car drives beautifully once it is moving.

Delete your other post. It sounds like a vaccume leak to me or the Idle jet is plugged. _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

is the gen/alt light coming on? has the gas mileage gotten weird? MOFO's tips are good ones- check your vacuum lines, and also your manifold boots- try spraying some WD-40 around the manifold boots and see what happens. if the idle smooths out, there's the problem. _________________ OG JHC

Is it fuel injected or does it have a carburetor? If it is a carburetor, check the idle selenoid on the side of the carb to see if it works. |

I have the same problem. Mine is carbureted. The coil and Distributor get hot. I think the timing is a little off. How can you time the engine without a timing light? |

No Alt light is coming on. Haven't noticed the gas mileage. There are no vacuum lines to check (have a 009 dist.) and all others are blocked off, and the manifold boots are good. Put my hand over the carb, and it quit, so no problem there. This is driving me crazy!!! Maybe it's the timing? |

A hot coil is one that is bad, the symptoms of a bad coil many times are it will run when cold but after it warms up it will no longer run till it cools down and eventually it wil no longer start. Don't know about a hot distributor. You also might want to take the electric selenoid out of the side of the carb and make sure it moves when 12 volts is supplied to it as it cuts off the fuel in the idle circuit when it is either off or defective. |

It is the other way around with my car. It runs bad at first, then when it warms up, it runs better.

The electric solenoid clicks when the key is turned, but I will check it anyways tomorrow. How would I check it? I will also check the Idle Jet to see if it is plugged.
Thanks for all the replies, Timgud and MeanIrishMofo. |

It's probably good if it's clicking, check to see if your choke is set correctly. To check the selenoid unscrew it and touch the body of the selenoid to the carb and have sonone turn the key to the on position. If it's good the plunger will move toward the end that the wire hooks to. |

ok, I will do that. I have heard that 009 dist's are a pain, so I am thinking of changing mine, but to what? Vacuum advance? Any suggestions? |

The svad is a good distributor for a solex. What I do instead is drill out the accelerator pump squirt tube from a 55 to a 65 and that pretty much gets rid of the bog when accelerating. But it will still do it alittle when its cold. I reread your posts and if your hesititating when accelerating ,that is the problem. The vacuum advance dist is the easiest fix it. |

K, I checked the solenoid on the side of the carb, and it works fine. I'm thinking that I need a new carb. Oh well, I was going to replace it anyways...
I have another problem now, though!!! I am getting so frusterated with this car!!! I was driving it today, and all of a sudden, smoke started billowing out of the back. I pulled over, and oil was pouring from somewhere at the front of the engine... I just rebuilt the engine 2 weeks ago. I'm starting to want to torch the F*#&er!!! |
