Hello all! Just a quick question regarding the process of switching to a modern lighting system.

Do these kits exist for the Thing?

Has anyone upgraded their system?

Are we talking big bucks?

The benefits of brighter headlights at night are super clear to me. I'm all about making my Thing safer when possible.[/b]

If you have a USA DOT Thing from 73-74 all you need is the H-4 bulb and housing set. BLIMP carries it for under $24 Pr. You can get the blue super bulbs also. If you have a h-1 or euro 181, you will need to convert to USA light baskets before you could use these bulbs.

I don't own a Thing, But I was wondering about the H-1. There is also an H-4 right?

The only thing you want to keep in mind with H4 bulbs is that the will slowly dim over time - this is why they are not DOT-approved for on-road usage in the US.

my car came with the conversion already installed. I do say its great, but probably not as dramatic a diffrence as you might think. If you want to do the conversion right you have to run bigger cables that can handle the extra electricity load that theese lights will require or you will not get the full benifit of the conversion....
just my 2 cents
