Each dune buggy is typically different depending on what you run. There's not really much to wiring one. Positive, switch, load ground. What exactly are you trying to get wired up? |

Here's the Bugpack bag-o-wires harness.
Go here for individual circuit diagrams:

Hi I am looking at the same wiring diagram that Uncle Bob posted above and this may be a dumb question but what I need to know is where does the red 12 guage wire (12R) coming from lug #50 off the ignition switch go to if I don't have a #50 on my starter? All I have is the #60 lug (solenoid) on my starter since it is a 12volt starter from a '72 bug. Do I just not use this red 12 guage wire (12R) wire? thanks _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug |

That wire goes to your solenoid. It's the 12V signal needed to engage the solenoid. The 'Start' wire.
You only need that wire if you want to start the engine from the driver seat. _________________ OG JHC

Yea I figured it out last night after looking at a different schmatic..I had the wrong one going to the lug on the solenoid, thanks. _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug |

Speaking of wiring diagrams, I built my buddies harness almost completely last night using my little guide. Simple. I put a chair in the kitchen, measured off 16ft and started pulling wire one by one. I would just twist tie the wire to the back of the chair and then just pull the wire to length and clip. I also printed, in MS word, a file that labels all wires with little Avery labels. I have the file if anyone wants it just email me. michaelmurzi "at" charter.net Here is my guide.
If anyone knows a site that will host the file, let me know.

Murzi you the man but what I already started doing was wiring up everything in the back and then I will cut everything to the correct length once I wire everything up to front near the fuse block, thx. _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug |

I have been using the wiring diagram shown above in rewiring my buggy.
I have the standard aftermaker switch which everyones sells that I will be using in place of the original.
The aftermarket switch has three connectors marked - Battery, Ignition, and Accessories. There is a center post that is not marked.
Will someone confirm for me the connection between battery, ignition and accessories and the numbers on the wiring diagram - 30, 50, and 15/54. My head hurts right now from studying these diagrams and trying to sort things out. However, color coding the diagram like Murzi did sure did help.
Also, would the center post on the new switch be used for anything? I have another wiring diagram which shows that center post connected to the fuse box and the battery terminal on the starter solenoid.
Hopefully I can eventually compare the two and figure the correlation out. |

Keep in mind the pic I posted was for my harness I built and not necessarily the "key" to the bag of wires. It is meant for someone to easily build thier own harness in one night. _________________ 62 vert

I don't have one of the ignition switches in my hand, but, if you're referring to the schematic I posted..
The Black 16AWG wires on switch are 'Ignition'. All tied together.
The 10AWG Red wires are considered 'Battery'. Tied together as well.
The last, smaller Red 12AWG wire is 'Start'. That must be the unmarked center post you're referring to.
And, accessory post is unused in this diagram. _________________ OG JHC

Anyone using a 5 wire indicator switch? I have wired everything using this kit but it only shows wiring for a 3 wire indicator. I know the other wires are for the dimmer relay but I can not get the turn signals to work. |

Is it a VW switch, or a aftermarket switch? _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Convert (wire ) it to 3 wire if its just for turn signals...

Use a test light to determine which brings power into the switch, and then which leads are hot when you move the switch to the left and to the right. It should only take a few moments to figure that out.
As previously stated...use only three wires (power in, power to the left, power to the right). |

It is a stock vw turn lever. I wanted to use the dimmer function of it though. I believe it's off of a 71 beetle. I know I need to use a dimmer relay, just wondering if anyone has done it |
