Just wondering what hood badge would be correct on an early 50. I have one of each, the one with the split between the V and W and one that is without the split between the letters. So...experts tell me the correct one to use.

TIA

I don't know the answer to your question, but out of curiosity, can you post a picture of each one?

The one without the bar is -supposedly- earlier (up to 1950?). However, I have seen original later 51 cars with the old style of emblem...

VW never wasted anything.......they probably used up all their old stock before they put in the new badge. Confused

My early 51 has the one with no bar and it's definitely original.

When did those hood emblems start? 1949?

Should be, with the introduction of the deluxe beetle.

From June 1949 to March 1950 it was the logo with the V and W touching. From March 1950-October 1952 it was the logo with teh space between the V and W.

No, NO, NO! Repro, as in reproduction.

Not repopduction. There is no such word as repop.

REPRO - reproduction,reproduced.

Sorry, this just bugs me. Bling.

THERE IS NO SUCH WORD AS repop.

I always thought of repop as re-popping, as in: new parts has been popping up again.

I have no problem with "re-pop"......... only with the people that make "re-pops." Evil or Very Mad

It's a bastardisation (sp) of the word "repro". REPRO, not repop.

Maybe new parts pop up, made in china stuff.

But to discern between that stuff, which is "repro", and reproduction,...that's the fine line.

Reproduction is the guys that work hard to mimic the original look, size, feel, chemical makeup of the ...original. REPRO.

WW, Bwerks, etc. ' nuff said. FZ

I don't think that anyone can blame someone for wanting to match an original part and thus making something to match it. There is a beauty and an art to true and accurate recreations. Lets face it, there isn't enough of everything to go around to restore every car out there. Some people also don't have the ability to pay for an original. Sure, maybe they should stick to super beetles, but the only crime ever committed with REPOP parts is when someone lies and tries to pass it off as original. Even worse is when they sell or try to sell it for an original part price.

OK, since were on the topic of pet peeves and venting:

It's a web SITE, not a web SIGHT. Sight is the process, power, or function of seeing; specifically : the animal sense of which the end organ is the eye and by which the position, shape, and color of objects are perceived b : mental or spiritual perception c : mental view. Nothing to do with the internet. A SITE is the spatial location of an actual or planned structure or set of structures (as a building, town, or monuments) b : a space of ground occupied or to be occupied by a building (that one drives me nuts)

Every deck lid light on a Beetle is not a "Pope's Nose". Only the '52 and earlier ones, that are tall and narrow are.

A "Batwing" wheel is a '53 and earlier wheel, NOT the '54-'59 late oval wheel. This:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Is not a batwing.

This:

Is a batwing wheel.

And I agree, there is only one "p" in "reproduction", not two. "repro(duction)" See?

<sigh>

There. I feel better now. Thanks...
