Need info on wiring 12v wiper motor thru a regular dash switch for my dune buggy. Have figured out how to make it run 1 speed, but need to know how to wire for 2 speed and centering. Thought I seen this awhile back but unable to find. |

I gave up trying to figure that out, wired it for high speed and park it manualy. With time and patience, a three position switch and a power supply you may have better luck figuring it out on a bench before installing it. I've only got caught in the rain once or twice anyway. You only need 'em to move for inspection stickers anyway.
I hear that in Texas you gotta have wipers but you don't need a windshield, go figure.

Have been trying to figure out on bench. Power across two wires gives me high speed, power to another wire will center, if I reverse polarity on original two wires it gives me low speed. Blowing my feeble mind. |

Thats why I wired it for high speed and manual park.

Thanks for input vdubyah73. Determined to make this work. There has to be someone that has done this. Old wires are still in place on motor. From one end to the other, purple, brown, yellow/blk, blk. Yellow/blk and black are side by side. Dealing with fiberglass body I have had to remember to provide ground to lights. Downloaded wiring diagram from Manx club but does not have wiper motor terminals marked. Anyone reselling these motors should have way to test. This is a street buggy and I need these wipers working in case I am pulled over. No top so I don't care, just do not need ticket. |

Here's what I remember from studying it, you need two switches.
1) an off-on-on switch for you speeds.
2) an on-off switch for park.
When you shut off the two speed switch you turn on the 2nd switch to park 'em or something like that. I built the buggy in my avatar in the winter of 2003-04. That made the wireing too busy for me so I went with one speed. Good luck, maybe try and use the original switch.

Ive got mine working. I had to use a 12v motor and a switch out of a '70. The switch does reverse polarity to park, if I can Ill get some pics of the wiring this weekend. I went to www.vintagebus.com and looked at the wiring diagram for a 1970, also they have a legend to cross the numbers on the back of the switch and on the motor. As I remember it though, the number on the switch goes to the corresponding number on the motor. _________________ dual purpose....more fun that way |

good luck to much info, can't take much more of it cap'n, warp drive in my head will implode! Electrical isn't my strong point. I only had smoke once when I hooked the batt up the first time. I was smart, I only held the terminal on instead of putting it on. When I heard / saw the short / smoke it only melted enough wire for me to find the mistake and repair it quickly!

Thanks to Murzi/Ron Kramer: Fighting the flu, will try this as soon as I can make it to garage. Will post if works. Seabeebuggy, sounds like you are correct on 6 volt. Half the fun is making something work. If everything was easy I wouldn't have to tap the knowledge of other kit car owners. |

Wiring is almost correct, reversed leads to 53, 53b. Wired thru a normal 2 position pull type headlight switch. Works great on bench, hope wiper assembly will fit in my buggy, but wiring is correct. |

I felt the the "slow" position was too slow and I did not use it. I installed a push/pull type SPST 15A switch to turn them ON and OFF, with the FAST contact. It matched my wiper push/pull switch. My state, if I were to inspect, does not require multi-speed wipers. A concern that people brought to my attention with a ON/OFF setup is that the wipers would not "Park". My wipers do "park".
PS: MAKE SURE YOU TIE ALLWIRES away from the wiper mechanicals as I found out the hard way what happens when a loose wire (GEN lite wire) gets cut and grounded to the frame of the wiper assy. Burned up wiring!
