I am buying an 89 1/2 wolfsburg GL but the VIN number is for a camper. (The fourth letter is Z instead of Y.) Any body else?? Explanation?? I suspect it has something to do with the two manufacture dates. |

That's one you be very careful of buying, make sure the VIN on the title and the plate are the same.
It's not that hard to switch VIN plates, and you don't want to buy something that might have been totaled and has unibody damage. _________________ My Art:

Some of the GL, Wolfsburg, and Carat vans had the final assembly done at Westfalia... Maybe the code just says that it was shipped out for final fitting at Westy.... _________________ '69 bug--rusty as hell

I haven't seen any other GL,or WLE's with the Z in the fourth position of the VIN; only pop tops. |

I've seen at least some info that says the Z is normal for european model buses and the Y is a jetta or something like that. |
