Very cool but.... the VW engineers were way ahead of ya. Some folks at the Jerome Jamboree this year demonstrated to me that the front door catches (I think that's what you call them... on the pillars, where the front doors catch) are brilliant bottle openers.

I started looking around a bit and noticed several people who have sticky drip marks on their pillars from poppin' brews! Cool

Now THIS is the kind of useful suggestion I have come to count on you all for Very Happy

This is just dead sexy - what is the rest of the story with this bus? Clean custom or Euro factory?

Neither, that's straight out of Brazil, do some searching and you'll find some info on them. This company sells them in the UK: http://www.beetles-uk.com/camper.html

I've got a bad case of cabin fever, getting anxious to pull the bus out of hibernation and get it ready for the season. Made me remember this nice old thread, which some of the newbies may not have seen. Here's my contribution:

The bus has provided great opportunities for quality time with my kids. If it burned down tomorrow, it wouldn't owe me a thing.

Not meaning to keep an old thread going but it's nice to see another '71 out there with a hightop! Cool

The pics of bay windows in California are by far the best, or even any other on the West Coast.

I can't wait however to get my Westy up to the Adirondaks and get some shots in that scenery to compete with some of those west coast mountains.

Upstate NY is very beautiful, and very underrated when it comes to scenic views. There is no doubt a Westy is a good fit on the East Coast too! Smile

This picture was taken yesterday. It's my first engine out of my first VW and it took my close to a month to work in short bursts in the fading light after work on the side of the street on the days that were above freezing before my hands got too cold and stiff to hold a wrench on every rusted bolt god ever made...with gas in both my eyes.
