Finally, got it done. Angus needed a new floor pan. Years of snowy, salty heels draining on his floor finally got to him. So we found some inexpensive floor pans for sale in the classifieds and put them in. Not too bad a job for those considering it.

Angus awaiting his operation, 5 am.

And then, weld in new. Or better yet, have talented friend weld in new...

You got a baby room? I got one on the way sometime in the next couple weeks. Shocked

It would give the wife and I a chance to sleep and you and your fiancee could get up and feed him/her.

Ha!

Why don't you come over to Maine this summer? Damn man, I've been to your place about 100 times!

And bring some parts with you! Very Happy

Geno Very Happy

Thanks Geno,

One thing to keep in mind if you're doing floor pans is that the Germans loved spot welds. In this one pan, there were something like 20 of them where the pan sits on the frame. Get yourself a coal chisel or if you have a compressor, a pneumatic chisel. That helped a lot. And wrap the wiring that goes under the floor pan in a damp towel. It catches on fire reeeeaally easily. Ask me how I know... Rolling Eyes

How did that Porter Cable air shears work for you? I imagine it only works in between all the spot welds and frame? Was it easy to manuver or a bit bulky?
I also have a 72 which I will be doing the same thing with and would like to know if I should pick up one of those for the job.
Thanks, Andy

Absolutely DO NOT buy them. They are for shit. they didn't work at all. If you have a compressor, my advice is to buy a set of little cutoff wheels. They aren't expensive ($15? I think...).

I used the cutoff wheels with my die grinder and that did a great job. And an air chisel, as stated. The only thing I didn't have that would have been helpful was a true grinder. That I didn't have.
