In my '78 Westy, what is the outlet under the rear seat hooked up too?
Is it just for shore power, or is there an inverter somewhere in the bus, to run stuff off of it while the Bus is running? |

Mr. Wizard,
Go here, http://type2.com/bartnik/ and cruise down to the Westy fridge section where he talks about the outlet.
Karl is the man!

OK, I'll ask a more specific question...
Has anyone put in an auxiliary battery and inverter, so that then the Bus is not running, you can plug things into the outlet (wered by auxiliary battery)and when it is running you can run things off of it (powered by alternator)?
Sorry for the long sentence.... |

Yes you can, but how big an inverter? If you are using the standard Group 27 Deep Cycle, you aren't going to run that space heater for long. Also, be careful if you do wire the outlet to an inverter as well as shore power...you need to have a dead man switch to ensure that the inverter power and shore power never mix. _________________ Larry in OB

I wouldn't think that would be a big deal to install. The inverter instruction are pretty easy to follow. I think the standard alternator on a 78 only charges at about 55 amps max x 12 volts = 660 watts. 70 amps if you have a CDN bus.
A lot of westies have the aux battery that charges off the alternator when driving. Many postings in the recent past on how to do it. |

To deal with our deep freeze winters and the need for a great charge in the battery in the a.m.! If I have to live in a country that starts with C, why not Costa Rica! |
