We've all heard about busses with original rear rubber brake hoses that had never been changed. I changed my originals last week. But, is it rare to have the original rear brake drums?

I sandblasted my drums yesterday and found the date stamped on them (one of them, anyway), and it also has the original VW part number. I took them in for turning at a garage this morning, and they came out fine, and have lots of room for at least one more turning.

Maybe my van didn't have as many miles on it as I thought it did when I got it 6 years ago. My brake backing plates were pretty rusted out and "holey" though. The other one was even worse. I'm installing new ones from Bus Depot, along with all the proper rubber plugs.

darryl,

great picture showing the date tags on the brake hoses. you can clearly see 9/77, which makes sense as your bus is a 78.

Yeah, Scott, can't wait for my order of new cylinders, shoes, and brake hardware to arrive. Very Happy
