finally got my square running and almost ready to drive. i've been having problems with shifting though. i've been adjusting and re-adjusting like crazy. i've tried adjusting from under the car and from inside the car. right not i cant seem to find 1st and 2nd gear. i have reverse and what seems like 3rd and 4th. im not understanding this.
for a while i had it to where i could hit all gears but i had to be pushing the gear shift half way down.
if it helps she's a '66 but the p.o. had boxes welded in so it has an irs tranny in now.
also, when i drove it around the block it would buck. got it back home and tightend the plug wire connections. that seemed to stop the bucking so i dont think its related. |

ok, took it around the block again. in order to get first and second gear you have to push the shifter partially down. this really bothers me because im scared im going to accidentally throw it into reverse.
this time when i got to third and forth she started sputtering or bucking a little again. any ideas as to why? i have a lot of new parts including case, carbs, cooler, etc. could they just be trying to settle in? are things not adjusted properly? im still pretty new to type 3's since this is my first and i just got her running again. |

Are you sure your guide plate under the shifter is installed right?
The big lip goes up and to the right.
Also, the socket that the shifter pivots in could be worn. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

i had the exact same problem in my 73...
look at where the u-joint set screw goes in the the shift rod on the tranny...
is it stright down? or off to the side? drill a new pilot hole in the shift rod so the set screw will be stright down and you shood be set |
