|

Does anyone have any idea why I have blue fuses under the dash? I've seen red and white ones in replacement catalogs, but never have I seen blue ones. I know that you're generally only supposed to replace a fuse with the same gauge rating, but what do I do about these blue ones if they blow? Can I get them anywhere else?
Dazed & Confused,

According to busdepot.com, white=8amp, red=16amp, blue=25amp, and yellow=5amp
I would look in your book and see what is supposed to be in there. most likely a fuse was blowing and instead of fixing it, they just put a bigger fuse in. What circuit is it in??? _________________ This thread SUCKS!!! |

You can also buy the fuses at any NAPA place that are the same only clear. Saabs also use this type of fuse in 8 and 16 amp. |

OK, I get it. Thanks so much for the explanation of what color is what amperage, that is super helpful.
And, I want to make sure I get this straight: Those cylindrical, glass fuses that I can get in any auto parts store will fit into my 1968 fuse box and do the same thing as the colorful old-school ones I can only get online or in a mag? That's great, but would you say that sticking with NOS parts is the best way to go. (I have a feeling like it might be.)
Oh yeah, and I'm not sure which fuse is which yet because I don't have an owner's manual. I've been keeping tabs on the classifieds here at TheSamba but nothing affordable has come up yet. Is there somewhere else I can get an inexpensive manual?
Thanks ya'll!

Take in one of your "dead ones" to the auto parts place and buy a box of 8 and 16 amp fuses. If they don't know which ones are for the you, tell them they are the same ones for a Saab (you cant say "car fire" with out the word "Saab". Couple of bucks I think. Silver on both ends but different than your "Monday through Friday" American car.
Keep the fuses in the glove box (68 was the fist year for the glove box in a bus you know) or your tool box. |

One more thing.
Go over here
http://type2.com/bartnik/ and to ratwells site,
http://homepage.mac.com/ratwell/
Paste theses sites in your "farvorites" for your web browser. You will be there often.
Click on VW Technical articles. They have some owners manuals that you can read on line.
Better yet buy a couple of books they descibe on the website, The John Muir Idiot Book and the Bentley Bus book that will show you the wiring diagrams for your bus.
Money well spent.
Read the part about changing your fuel lines. You need to do that ASAP or your bus will burn down at the gas pump. It would be a bummer. |
