'67 and '68 would be 12volt systems and would require a change to 12V for the car including the flywheel. Or an adapter bushing to run the 6V starter in a 12V bellhousing.

Well, the car the front clip for my Ghia came from was a '63, and it had one in it.

The VIN number is in the Type 3 registry under my name, since I got the clip with the VIN tag.

That is the number that was on the tag in the tire well.
It came off that chassis that I showed in the other post.

Sorry for late reply, I have been out of town for the weekend. I will get you the vin this week.

The gearbox broke in the 70's and the car was sitting in a garage until late 90's. When the car was left in the garden it was not to rusty... I will check how much rust there are now Sad . As you can see from the picture it needs urgently to washed...

Thank you to all for your help. Smile

Does all gearboxes have the same ratio? Which gearbox number had the earlist 12volt gearboxes?

The "stamped" gear boxes had stamped metal shock attachments on the axle tubes, and very short plates where the backing plates were welded on. As in this picture.

The later ones had the whole outer end as one forged piece.

T-3 and T-1's have different ratios. So stay away from T-1 gear boxes, if you can.
T-1's had a 4.375 final ratio and T-3's had a 4.13. This means that if you put a T-1 differential into your T-3, you will be turning a couple hundred RPM's more to get the same ground speed.

Which pieces are incorrect if the vin is saying 62?

I know that the car is registred as a 1962-01-01 in the dmv, I will get the VIN tomorow and we will find out. Cool

It has wrap-around and chrome rear reflector housings and side trim.

It looks like a 64 or 65 model to me.

Yeah, but it has a 1500 emblem on it. With the VIN that Russ gave makes it a 63.

I also just noticed that there are no holes or bumper bolts visible which makes it earlier. Maybe someone in the 70s liked the chrome look and tried to hop it up!! Laughing
