I tried using the search function, but nothing came up on this.

On page 22 of the 1978 Campmobile brochure (CDN version), it says:
"The strut supports of the pop-up roof have to be waxed on the running surface from time to time." There is also a diagram of the rear pop top hinges with arrows pointing where to wax.

My question is what kind of wax? Do I start melting candles? Ski wax? Or is there a viable alternative - white grease?

I've never waxed or lubricated my westy pop top hinges in 7 years of ownership, so it's probably time.

My vote is for either sex wax or Boeshield T-9, available at Lee Valley tools.

Hmmmm... I just tried to find that waxing recommendation in the Samba online owner's manuals. No mention of wax in the 1974 manual. Why can't I find any Westfalia manuals for 1975 - 1978? Are they over at type2 or somewhere else? I wanted to post a copy of that page here. Yes, I would like to know more about waxing the hinges. It's the first time I've heard of it. Makes sense. Now where exactly do we want to put the wax?

That's a 73/74 bus manual. I thought we were discussing Westfalia manuals and hinges.

In my CDN version of the manual, that info is on page 22, with those two figures shown one on top of the other. I suppose they're slightly different page no.s because the CDN version is bilingual, with French on the back. (or front, if you flip it around and turn it upside down. Smile )
