Thanks for the info on Ice AC. I checked their web site and was only able to get the complete kit price. Has anybody seen what they look like? Are they similar in looks like an OE unit? I called but no answer (Sat).

Check with Aircooled.net. They have AC's from Gilmore which are supposed to be the best out there.

There were no "OE Units", per se. A/C was a dealer installed option back in the day.

http://www.gilmore-enterprises.net/GH/index.htm

I've only heard good things about Gilmore A/C units. If I had the extra cash, I would get one for my own car. He installed my rear window (with chrome) which is a pain... the glass man who had been in business 20+ years couldn't even do it! So if his A/C work is anything like what I had done, he does an excellent job.

I looked at the pics and the one with the condensor coil hanging under the floor pans scares me. That just can't be a good place to put those! Are all aircooled VW A/C coils there?

I've seen them in the front fender wells, even under the front nose someone had cut out a section. I'm sure there are other ways without any extensive mods. Under the floorpans isnt a bad place for them, just dont do any off-roading

Here's who I would use, but they are't too far from me:
http://www.europeancoolerair.com/
He put a front AC unit in my westy. Good work and has kits for various cars.
